DESCRIPTION
The
Bay Area Reporter is the oldest continuously published lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer weekly newspaper in the United States and is the highest circulation publication serving the LGBTQ communities of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Founded in 1971, the Bay Area Reporter is known for its original reporting on news, culture and entertainment relevant to LGBTQ people. The newspaper is published every Thursday by BAR Media, Inc., and the print edition is distributed free of charge in San Francisco and other Bay Area cities.
The GLBT Historical Society in San Francisco, which maintains one of the world's largest collections of LGBTQ historical materials, holds a near-complete run of the
Bay Area Reporter. The society is digitizing the entire period of 1971 through mid-2005, thanks to a grant from the Bob Ross Foundation. For more information on the GLBT Historical Society, visit
